First Two Weeks in October: Oneida Lake - All of Oneida Lake peaks during this general time, but only the northwestern corner is considered to be in the Thousand Islands/Seaway Region. Included in this section is the area from Oneida Lake to the western edge of the Tughill Plateau. Main roads include US 11, NY 49, NY 69, NY 104 and NY 13. Tughill Plateau - Only the westernmost portion of this plateau are located in the Thousand Islands/Seaway Region, but the entire plateau reaches its peak at about the same time. The major road is NY 285. Foothills - This comprises the very edge of the region, which borders on the Adirondack Mountains. This includes Fort Drum, and points northeast, generally south of NY 11.
Second and Third Weeks in October: Saint Lawrence Seaway - This includes, but isn't limited to, the area between Morristown and Massena on the Saint Lawrence River. Also included is the St. Lawrence Valley proper, to the Adirondack foothills. Major roads include NY 37, NY 58, NY 68 and NY 56. Thousand Islands - This includes the area at the head of the Saint Lawrence River. Included are Alexandria Bay, Clayton and Watertown. Main roads include I-81, US 11, NY 12, NY 12E, and NY 37. Ontario Shoreline - Includes the shoreline along the easternmost section of Lake Ontario from Sacketts Harbor down to Oswego. Main roads include I-81, US 11, NY 3, NY 104 and NY 104B.
